The Animals and how they came about

(Please select the hi-lighted word for more information)

Horses:  My horses are my pride and joy.  I enjoy the few foals that I breed each year and each of them is a keeper if I only had the room.  When you look at the horse pages and have any questions about them, please do not hesistate to send me an email.  I started out riding a black mare going gray that ran the track back in the 60's.  She was fast, mean, cantankerous, grumpy and I absolutely loved riding her.  Then I advanced to a palomino mare that I chased cans and cows on, she could do anything and was pretty to boot.  I still have my original bloodlines as they have stood the test of time. Not many people in the horse business can brag about that.  So it would seem natural to me that for every horse that leaves my family and joins yours we become a family extension.

My true love is German Shepherds aka "GSD" and I have shown them in every event from conformation, herding, obedience, tracking and schutzhund.  GSD's to me are the ultimate breed of k9, there is nothing that they cannot do or excell in and still be a wonderful family companion.  GSD's have never failed at any event and I am prejudiced toward the breed as you can tell.  I have been to more shows that I can count and seen numerous breeds work, none top the German Shepherd in heart, workability & family companion.  I was a registered Decoy for USA and still like to involve myself in tracking and schutzhund work now and then.   The Many plaques I have on my walls are a testament to their diversity and willingness to please me.

I lost Gracie at the first of Dec. 2006 due to old age 13 years strong her half sister Lacey is very old and covered in cancer, she may make 13 in the spring, she was lost to me Aug, 2007 and made it to 13 years old.

For my long standing customers and friends I am sorry to say that after twenty years (1985 - 2005) I am no longer breeding, showing, herding, tracking, obdedience training or performing schutzhund with my remaining GSD's.  I have several contacts with whom I would trust to get another  GSD from, please check with them for more information.

Cattle or specifically Angus and Angus/Hereford cross:  Well I loved my cattle as I had raised them and kept back the girls as replacement stock since 1977.  They were all sold to a family member who is on the cow poor side on 07.02.06.  I am going to miss them.  Especially falling over a body in the dark.

Barbado Sheep:  Over the last 15 years we have put together a group of Barbado sheep for the highest horn production possible.  An interesting Hobby that turned into a lot of fun (and work too).  There is a waiting list for the babies if you are interested.  These sheep herd very easily, they tolerate Texas heat and humidity, are small enough for an average woman to handle and are generally easy to manage.  I really like the bottle babies, though they can be a pest at times.   Cost will depend on color (Barbado Blackbelly, Painted Desert, Corsican & Hawaiian Black).  Email the ranch for availabilityCheck the 'Stock' page for lamb availability.

Californian Rabbits Started out as a 4H project for my niece and has really taken off  these past few years with many Grand and Reserve Champions.

Emus:  Ah! the big birds.  In 1993 I was riding a mare in the Sam Houston National Forest and about this time the Emu breeders hit rock bottom and you may remember that many of them just turned their birds loose.  Well the birds were used to being fed and were hungry at this point.

My mare and I were riding along and minding our own business when out from the woods popped an emu and he/she walked right up to us.  Well this mare has seen cows, chickens, deer and such but a big bird that was making a drumming sound and walking right up to her was a whole different matter.  She started backing up and the bird just kept following her and in between two large thorn trees she backed.  The thorns fillet her skin just enough to roll the skin up from the muscle.  She required a little over 200 sutures in six different spots.  So she hit the trees, jumped forward and took off at quite a clip back toward the trailer and then to the Vets office.

I then called a friend who had tried to give me some birds a few years back and she said "Sure Kim, just bring out a trailer and I will give you an adult breeding pair".  So off I went.  I got to Claudia's and there were four pair in the pen and no way to seperate them out... so I came home with eight adult birds "SUCKER" must have been printed on my forehead.  I turned the birds out with the sheep, horses and calves (good thing my property has field fence all around it).  Where the birds were the other animals were in the opposite corner away from them.  I was glad the Emus were fence walkers.  It took several weeks for the critters to all get along, Easy the mare I was riding finally decided at one feeding time that she was tired of doing without feed (she came up and birds did too, so she left to avoid them, this was about four weeks after the birds arrived).  She ran one of them and it ran away from her, her confidence was back up.

You now have a great benefit when you purchase a horse from me, a horse who is not afraid of chickens no matter how big we grow'em here in Texas.

As an authorized agent for  TATTOO-A-PET   I highly recommend this service to protect your pets in case they become lost.  Not all shelters have every type of scanner available to them and a tattoo is a painless, visible form of identification for your pet.  I also microchip with AVID and will set up a clinic or event with you, this is available for pet and equine owners.

Come take a look, email or give the ranch a call.  I try to answer emails and phone calls within 2 days Monday through Friday.  Phone calls are returned between 9pm  and 11pm Texas time.  As of 10.06.07 the barn phone is for out going messages.  Please email.
